Does this work with JB 4.2?

  4. Parris Hill says:

Success!.. So far in one location. Based on Ms. Nero. I’ll keep you posted.

  5. Manny Guzman says:

I’ve been following step by step but I fail when I open Odin3 and try to add CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v5.tar.md5.

  6. Jaclyn says:

Is there anyway to do this with a MAC? Odin doesn’t work on those.

  7. Picklebill says:

  8. rootfan says:

  9. warpedminded says:

  10. warpedminded says:

will this root MA6? If not what will?

  13. mwganson says:

Great job with the video. I am now rooted! Woohoo! I was confused (but have it figured out now) at first with the .tar and .tar.md5 extensions for the file we had to drag into the s3 root folder on the desktop. You should add a prominent note somewhere to the effect that the .md5 extension will work just fine and that the only reason it doesn’t show up in the video as an .md5 file is because you have the “hide known file extensions” option set in Windows on your computer.

    • Johnny Cakes says:

Agreed both on the “great job” and the need for an explanation of why our file (tar.md5) is different than your file (just .tar). Obviously I’m not going to just guess it is OK and possibly brick the phone, so spent about 30 minutes researching what an md5 extension means. Wish I’d read this comment first.

      • qbking77 says:

It will work just fine. some PC’s show file extensions, some dont.

        • Johnny Cakes says:

Yeah, figured that out. Also, I just noticed that when you transferred the file to Oden on the video, it had the md5 extension. Since you are taking newbies (like me) through step-by-step, it was just a freak out moment to be doing something different from the video. Root = success! Just sent you a pizza ($10) via the PayPal link. Thanks for posting this video.

  14. Guest says:

Great video Thanks a lot. You guys are genius.

  15. ToddL says:

OK, I am clueless… My phone is rooted. on LG8. I want to get to 4.1.2 JB ver MA6 or MB1 w TrevE Tether. What’s the best pathway there? Do I unroot, go through all the OTA updates, then re-root? Do I just flash some ROM? I a total newb at this.

If I need to unroot, does it matter which Stock Recovery version I use?

  16. Blake says:

will this work with the new android 4.1.2 update?

  17. Skylinesteve1999 says:

So i currently have 4.1.1 which has been rooted thanks to you fantastic how to video, however I find that about every 10 min the hotspot will disconnect and I have to reactivate it. Is there a fix for this? Also when I try to update to 4.1.2 the update is canceled and takes me to the boot menu. All I can really do is just reboot the device and cannot finish the install. Is there a way for me to get the update while rooted or do I actually have to unroot first? Please advise. Thanks so much.

    • Daniel Bohlen says:

I don’t know anything about the hotspot problem, I would just make sure you have the latest version and uninstall and then re install, but as for how to update for 4.1.2, I just had the same problem. The way it worked for me was, I backed up everything with titanium backup and then unrooted back to stock. Then waited for all the updates to go through. There were a couple and then once the update went through for 4.1.2, I just rooted again, and it worked. Then just restore your apps on titanium. I don’t know if you could use a cwm backup to restore since its a different version of android, I didn’t want to chance it.

      • Skylinesteve1999 says:

Ill try that out. I figured that’s what I would have to do. Just wanted to see if there was a quicker wy of doing it.

  18. aj says:

my phone seems to be unrootable. I have tried everything, but I always get a write fail message after hanging at “Setup Connection” in Odin for a few minutes. My phone is recognized by my computer, I am able to drag and drop files to it. When plugged into Odin I am able to see the COM message. My phone does seem to have a hard time connecting to Kies, I believe it only connected to the software once.

Odin CW mod then from CW mod installed Teamwork.
Everything worked fine until I had to restart the phone. The phone becomes bricked, and starts an endless reboot cycle.
Went in CW Mod installed Teamwork remove, phone reboot cycle stopped.
    Lost Root 🙁
Went back in to CW Mod and installed Teamwork again, rebooted from CWmod, Rooted once again, then later locked up just after the phone finished boot cycle.
Had to go back in CW Mod and run Teamwork remove.
    No longer rooted 🙁
